Book Review: The Shadows by Hunter J. Keane

A little about this book: Alex is forced to start over- new town, new school and new name. This much she knows. It's what she doesn't know that could destroy her.

Alex Garretty is just a normal teenage girl until she is yanked from her home in the middle of the night. Her entire family is moved across country and given new identities. Just when Alex thinks it can't get any worse, she meets Daniel, her mysterious but charming classmate. She quickly learns she isn't the only one keeping a big secret, and Daniel's secret could cost Alex her life.

A visitor from her past arrives in town and Alex must quickly learn who she can trust. When she discovers the truth about her own destiny, Alex must find a way to accept it and even more importantly, a way to survive.

My Review: The Shadows by Hunter J. Keane is a refreshingly unique novel.  A fight between good and evil rests upon the shoulders of Warriors, and this story features a young teen girl named Alex.  Alex's life is turned upside down where her and her family are uprooted from their home in the middle of the night and forced to move for their own protection- having to change their looks, names, and identity, and forced to keep secrets.  But their secret, along with others, are unraveled and lives are put in danger.

The Shadows is a fantastic novel.  The characters are likeable and endearing.  The story is fun, fast-paced, and entertaining.  This novel is definitely worth the time to read.  I can not wait to see what will happen in the next installment of this trilogy.  4/5 STARS

Book Review: What Kills Me by Wynne Channing

A little about the book: An ancient prophecy warns of a girl destined to cause the extinction of the vampire race.

So when 17-year-old Axelia falls into a sacred well filled with blood and emerges a vampire, the immortal empire believes she is this legendary destroyer. Hunted by soldiers and mercenaries, Axelia and her reluctant ally, the vampire bladesmith Lucas, must battle to survive.

How will she convince the empire that she is just an innocent teenager-turned bloodsucker and not a creature of destruction? And if she cannot, can a vampire who is afraid of bugs summon the courage to fight a nation of immortals?

My Review: What can I say, What Kills Me is an amazing and fun novel! I received this novel in ebook format from a LibraryThing giveaway, and I can't say that I'm disappointed. I simply loved the book and the characters are fantastic!  Though the book is kind of short, it was still a really great one.  I couldn't stop reading until I had finished.  I only wish there had been more to the story and I hope there will be more!  What Kills Me is a refreshing take on vampires, giving new blood to the 'legends of vampires'.
