I loved Never Tear Us Apart by Monica Murphy! Once I began reading I couldn't put the book down and ended up binge reading the book in one day. Murphy is becoming one of my favorite authors as her writing and stories captivate me.
Though this story contains some material that society usually turns from, I think it's important that we acknowledge it's existence and gain a better understanding of what it would be like for someone to survive such an ordeal and how they would have to adjust to life after such a horrific experience.
This story felt very real and it was emotionally hard to try and place myself in Katie's shoes. I also couldn't help feeling sympathetic towards Will/Ethan and found it heartbreaking that no one, except for Katie, seemed to acknowledge his courageous actions and instead let his father's actions cast a dark image and shadow over his son when his son had nothing to do with the sick and twisted behavior of his father. It's depressing how often we let the actions of others be determining factors of how we judge those that may or may not be related to them in some way. This book is an eye opener to some of the negative aspects that occur in our society and that we sometimes turn a blind eye from.
Murphy threw some twists and turns into the story that left me wanting more, especially in the end. I can't wait to read the next book and see what happens to Ethan and Katie. Such a good book and one I could see myself reading again as well as recommending others to read as well. Just keep in mind that it does broach on subjects that aren't for those of a sensitive nature.
