Book Review: The Dragon and the Lotus by Joseph Robert Lewis (Book One of the Chimera Series)

A little about the book: As a child in Kathmandu, Asha was bitten by a dragon and gained the ability to hear the souls of all living things. Years later in India, she uses her strange gift and her training as an herbalist to save people possessed by ghosts, poisoned by legendary beasts, and tortured by the cruel doctors of Ming. And to fight the occasional bear or tiger, of course.

With the help of a beautiful blind nun and a sleepy little mongoose, Asha confronts both victims and predators, including the man who stole her childhood and killed her lover. But when she journeys into the west, Asha discovers that there are fates worse than death and there are human monsters that can only be defeated by a woman with the strength of a dragon.

My Review:  ***I received this novel in a giveaway on LibraryThing.com ***

This novel was quite good.  The story and characters are fun and enjoyable.  Each chapter felt like a short story by itself, giving the novel the feel of multiple series put into one main book.  The creativity and imagination that fill the pages were very entertaining.

Mythical creatures like dragons, angered souls that seek out revenge, evil doctors who experiments endanger the lives of their patients, immortals, and two women who journey to many places and discover all these dangerous and enlightening mysteries- helping all those that they can along the way.

I would definitely recommend this book to others. I can't wait to see where Asha and Priya's adventures will take them next.  4/5 STARS
